My grandfather, Lucien Montchovet, lived in Pommard where he worked as
a laborer on the vines. There he bought some vineyard parcels and some fallow
land, which he planted and developed. Aspiring to independence, he settled in Nantoux, a neighboring village 4 kilometers away. It is thus how the Montchovet family began to live off of income from the vines, and other farming.
The purchase of a vine of Beaune Coucherias (1st Vintage) in 1955 coincided with the arrival of Julien Montchovet at the helm, who gave up the mixed
farming and planted several vines on the slopes of Nantoux (Hautes Côtes de Beaune).
Julien also launched the sale of bottled wine, which was still a relatively uncommon practice at the time.

The size of the operation at that point was 4.5 hectares. Direct marketing at
the cellar appeared to be a good choice since it managed to insure a steadily
increasing regular income.

The customer base was initially made up of wealthy people who had a car,
allowing them to drive to the property. Then, little by little, it reached
more and more people.

I took over in 1987, running the majority of my father's vines initially in
sharecropping then in tenant farming. That year, I also increased the size of
my operation by the plantation 1 hectares of Bourgogne Aligote (Burgundy White grapes) in a place where my father already experienced success with this type of vine.

In 1990, I married Nathalie. She works with me in the vineyards as well as in
the cellar. It is in 1992 and 1994 that we achieved our 2 finest productions:
Pierre and Julie.

In 1993, I seized the opportunity to acquire a very beautiful parcel of
Monthelie 1° Cru, situated near Clos Volnay des Chênes.
Lastly, very recently, I was among the candidates selected as having the possibility to purchase a fantastic piece of
vineyard. It is none other than a parcel in the reputed village of Puligny
Montrachet.
This high-class white wine came at the right moment to perfectly complete my
selection of wines.
